Goals for 2015

I need to set goals. I need to set goals or it’s far too easy for me to become frazzled and overwhelmed by all the things I have on the go. When that happens I sort of begin to pinball around the place, bouncing off things but not getting anything done.

So I set goals 🙂

This year my goals are relatively straight forward (and sadly, many of them are carried over from last year):

As a writer:

  • Self-publish all my old ‘Steffie Sherwood’ stories
  • Have at least one successful ‘Writing Under Glass’ event
  • Figure out why my tags and categories on this website have suddenly stopped working* >_<
  • Publish at least one story through a traditional publisher
  • Complete one of my half-finished longer projects (incubus, Twin Magic or 2012’s NaNo novel)
  • Begin adapting ### ####### for re-release
  • Build a solid list of people on Twitter who I enjoy following and interacting with.

As an editor:

  • Edit at least two titles for Red Moon Romance that are released this year or next
    • This may include the Secret Santa anthology I’m currently working on, but bonus points if they are in addition to it 🙂
  • Successfully acquire stories to create a strong table of contents for the anthology I proposed to Red Moon Romance (hint: see picture above) and deliver the manuscript on time

Sorry about the censorship up there, it’s not because there’s a big bad secret of some sort that you’re not in on, it’s just because that goal is going to require a blog post to explain, and I haven’t got time to write it just yet.

*On a somewhat related note? The tags and categories on this website have suddenly stopped working. Fun, fun, fun!

ETA: I fixed the link/categories problem. Yay! One item already crossed off the list. It’s all downhill from here, right? Right? Hey… why are you laughing?

OMG RIGHT?

I don’t follow Least I Could Do, but my partner does and he shares the comics he thinks I’d especially appreciate with me.

There’s this trend in porn the last *few* years that has totally not worked for me, and that is the copious, obscene (in the bad way) amount of saliva and spitting. If that’s your kink, more power to you, but it’s a massive turn off for me.

Which is why I love this comic –> Swallows Have Left Capistrano

When I read that I just said, “Oh my gawd, right?”

And now, because no blog post is complete without a picture. If you like web comics that are often naughty (though not as much as Oglaf) and you haven’t checked out Least I Could Do:

Clicky clicky

Back on Twitter

twitter-big

I’m back on Twitter.

I had an account a while back but canceled it because at the time I was really struggling to maintain the accounts under my real name and just couldn’t manage one more. But times change and now I’m back.

Which means I’m attempting to rebuild my followers and (related but separate from that) create a feed of people I want to follow as well.

Right now I’m following a lot of people who seem to be interested in the same things I am, and I’m not splitting them into lists (aside from one for Red Moon Romance staff and writers) yet.

Yet.

Once my Twitter feed it large enough it begins to become unwieldy I’ll start to shape it. That means putting people on lists (Romance Writers / Writers /Publishers / etc. ) and unfollowing those who bore me*.

Who bores me?

Well, mostly people who only have one thing to say. Usually that thing is ‘Buy my book!’.

We, all of us, want to sell books. We do. But there is a huge difference between advertising and spamming, and when I go on Twitter I want to connect, not be sold to. And, interestingly enough, if we connect I’m actually quite likely to look up your book(s) and take a look. Just don’t spam me.

Cool?

Related… people can be spammy on Twitter no matter what, but it does seem to be especially common in regard to romance and erotica writers. I wonder if that’s because so many of us are using pen names.

Stay with me on this.

People using pen names are more likely to have multiple Twitter accounts and not want to reveal their real identity.

Given those two things, perhaps they don’t have as much time to spend on their pen name account as their primary one. Or maybe they are saving all their ‘best material’ or anything which could be deemed ‘personal’ for their other account (or not sharing it at all). While I might take issue with the second point, I certainly wouldn’t the others. However… even if I’m 100% right (and let’s pretend for a second that I am, because I like being right), there is still room for compromise.

Truly.

If this describes you, if you’re guilty of the incessant posts about your books, please let me offer a suggestion.

Give your followers something. Something that isn’t just one big long stream of #annoying #hashtags #and #links #to #your #books.

Give us something real.

Interact with other people now and then (beyond saying ‘Thanks for the follow!).

Share a joke or funny picture.

Tweet an update about what kind of story you’re working on (without a link to its prequel) or share a bit about how the progress is going (slow and painful? Swiftly and sweet?).

Something.

Anything.

Let us know you’re a real person, not just an advertising machine.

Please?

I’m looking for connections, not commercials and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.

In the meantime, if you’re on Twitter and you’d like to connect I’m at @CoriVidae and I’d love to see you there. Also? I promise not to spam you.

*I assume that if I bore you, you’ll unfollow me too 🙂

Well, It’s Official…

It’s official. My bio is up on the Red Moon Romance website and everything — I am one of their new Assistant Editors 🙂

Red Moon focuses on romance, encompassing the spectrum from sensual romance to erotic romance without ever tumbling into erotic fiction, because what we do is hot romance.

Of course, everything I post here as a writer is erotic fiction, not romance, but what you see here (or, more specifically, what you’ve seen here so far) isn’t all there is to me. I’m a huge fan of romance as well as the more smut-tastic stuff, and I won’t have any issue at all switching to the more emotional side of the spectrum when I have my editor hat on.

Red Moon RomanceSpeaking of editing, I do it a lot and, at the risk of seeming immodest, I’m pretty damn good at it.

What this means for this website is that while I will continue to be writing, sharing and selling my own sex-centric stories, I will also be spreading the word about the authors’ stories I’ve edited. So you, Dear Reader, will get a sampling from a much larger variety of heat and romance levels. Win/win, right?

If you are a writer of erotic romance Red Moon Romance is opening to submissions on January 1st so… 😉

The Editor-in-Chief, Eileen Weidbrauk, asked each of us Assistant Editors to write a quick little piece about what we’re looking for. You’ll find mine below. It and the other Assistant Editors’ descriptions of what we’re looking for will be up on the RMR website soon so, if you’re a writer you’ll be able to see what we’re looking for and if you’re a reader you’ll know what you can soon hope to read from the Red Moon Romance imprint!

What I’m Looking For: When I interviewed for this position Eileen said, “If that’s where you want to build your editorial nest…” and that image hasn’t left my brain ever since. My editorial nest is tucked into the shadows and it isn’t smooth-edged, downy or comfortable. It’s complex, thorny and challenging. If your story is too, I’d love to see it.

A little too metaphorical?

I like my romance dark and twisted. That could very well mean kinky, but it doesn’t have to.

Kink is awesome (so long as it’s RACK) and doesn’t absolutely need to equate to BDSM. I’m open to any heat level and it takes an awful lot to make me blush, so if you can pull it off without also squicking me out, you will definitely have my attention.

My wishlist for my first year with Red Moon Romance includes an erotic second world fantasy, an intelligent kinky romance which does not include a billionaire wanna-be Dom and a sexy steampunk story. So dude, if you’ve got a kinky steampunk story we should definitely talk.
