Introducing Anna Kyle!

It's a picture of an adorable pup but if we use our imaginations we can pretend that it's a wolf shapeshifter pup! Okay, maybe not. But it's adorable anyway! It’s official.

The Ts have been crossed, the Is dotted and the contracts signed. I’m super excited to announce the Anna Kyle is the newest author at Red Moon Romance.

Even more exciting? I’m her editor!

Anna created a fun world full of sexy shapeshifters, mages, omegas and fae and then set her Wolf King series within it:

Whispers of the Wolf King’s return after a thousand years absence foretell the resurrection of an ancient evil and stir up hidden enemies. The shapeshifters, magic-users, Omegas (the shifter/mage hybrids), and the Fae must turn their blades, fangs, and claws away from each other and work together to defeat a growing horde that threatens the extinction of them all.

Dun dun dun!

The first title we’ll be releasing is Skye Falling. It’s a sizzling hot novella with shapeshifting and magic and… well, let me just share the official description, shall I?

Skye, a Fae-shapeshifter halfing, could die if she doesn’t find out how to wake her dormant wolf and no one in Faerie can help her. Rumors of the Wolf King’s return inspire her to slip through the Chicago portal in search of aid, but the dizzyingly bright lights and sounds of the human realm are too tempting to ignore. So is the sexy shapeshifter wolf intent on capturing her—the one who stirs her sleeping wolf just long enough to bind the handsome stranger to her with a mate-bond.

Lake is willing to do anything to protect the Wolf King, a man he also calls friend. So when he receives word that a Fae princess has slipped into Chicago, he suspects a plot to assassinate the Wolf King. He’s certain capturing her will be as easy as locating her—that was his first mistake. Not only is his wolf a little too interested in Skye, but the wolf accepts her mate-bond without any say-so from him. As he unravels the truth surrounding the smart-mouthed princess and whether she’s hunting his friend or being hunted by someone else, Lake’s mission changes: protect Skye at all costs. And keep her for himself.

Skye Falling will be available later in 2015, but you can add it now to your Goodreads “want to read” lists.

About Anna Kyle:

Anna wrote her first story at age 12 on an old manual typewriter, and though the technology has changed, she hasn’t stopped since. She lives in the Midwest surrounded by family and friends and dogs and horses. They’ve forgiven her (mostly) when they appear in her stories. She reads everything she can get her hands on, but romances, especially paranormals, are her favorite. Vampires, humans, Fae, shapeshifters, or demons, it doesn’t matter—Anna’s heart goes pitter-pat for the Happily Ever After. Hot heroes + strong, funny heroines = awesome.

Temporary Twitter

twitter-bigThere was a story on the radio the other day. Unfortunately, though I’ve tried, I can’t find a link to the podcast version or even a print article about the story. That may be weirdly appropriate though…

The story was about how a growing number of people are setting up their Twitter accounts so that their tweets will automatically expire after a set length of time. The idea is that if Twitter is meant to be a conversation, archiving your tweets forever is contrary to that. Conversations are meant to be temporary, ephemeral. Another argument is that making your tweets temporary is one (of many) things we can do to control our digital lives.

The story really made me think about my digital footprint, and taking control of it, as well as about how I use social media and whether or not I want every conversation I have on Twitter to be around forever. I don’t have any answers yet, but I have decided to try an experiment. I’m going to begin using a program that will automatically delete the tweets from my Cori Vidae twitter account after a set period of time (there are several, I’ll be using one called efemr which uses hashtags to set an expiry date).

After a few months I’ll check back in 🙂

What do you think? Would you ever consider making your tweets expire, or do you like knowing that they’ll be around forever? How do you feel about following someone whose tweets are temporary? Does it matter to you at all?

Rough Edges

If anyone knows the source of this photo please tell me. Google just keeps pointing me to pintrest & I can't find the original sourceYeehaw! I’m editing a brand new anthology. How about you help me make it completely amazing? 🙂

Rough Edges
Work hard, play hard, love hard.

Nothing is sexier than a man who knows what he wants and has the confidence go after it. I’m looking for hot romances featuring those kinds of rough-around-the-edges alpha males in the (North) American West. I want stories about the kind of men who ride horses during the day and their partners at night, who speak few words but mean every one of them and who would never break their own personal code of honor. I’m talking about cowboys.

There is plenty of room in this anthology for BDSM or risk-aware consensual kink (leather and spurs and ropes, oh my!) but I’m also completely open to vanilla romance as well.

I’ll be looking for stories which explore the usual Western themes of redemption, self-improvement and second chances set in beautifully brutal landscapes, but it’s the romantic, emotional core of the story which is most important. I want to feel the characters fall in love, to experience the hot nights beneath starry skies, hear the campfires crackle and smell the leather. Give me a story about the young ranch hand falling in love with a cattle rustler, or a rodeo cowboy who breaks broncs during the day and hearts at night (that is, until someone lassos his!). Surprise me, engage me, make it impossible for me to say no.

  • Western setting (historical, contemporary, futuristic, sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal, steampunk)
  • 3,000 – 20,000 words
  • Reprints accepted but not preferred (when submitting a reprint include information about when and where it was previously published in your submission email)
  • Romance with HEA or HFN
  • Open to all pairings (m/f, m/m, f/f, m/m/f, etc.)
  • Safe, sane, and consensual kink is okay but not required

PAYMENT:
Pro-rata share of 40% net profit on anthology sales distributed among the contributing authors based on story word-count paid semi-annually. Plus a trade paperback copy of the anthology. No advance.

TO SUBMIT:
Send the complete story as an attachment to corividae@gmail.com using the subject line “Rough Edges / Name of your story.”

OPEN SUBMISSIONS:
February 12 – July 31, 2015.

ANTHOLOGIST:
Cori Vidae.

Annnnnd…

Before it becomes an FAQ, despite the focus on cowboys in these guidelines I’m open to main characters of any gender who have rough edges 🙂

#AdPit

This month I am one of the industry professionals participating in the #AdPit event on Twitter. #AdPit, (or Adult Pitch) is a Twitter pitch fest where authors with completed manuscripts pitch them on Twitter (including the #AdPit hashtag). If an agent or editor is intrigued by the pitch and interested in reading more, they favourite the tweet to signal that to the author.

All of this pitching and favouriting (and plenty of retweeting too) is taking place on February 13th and myself and my colleagues at both Red Moon Romance and World Weaver Press will be keeping an eye out for awesome new projects. In addition to all that, however, I’m also participating in the week-long build up which precedes Friday’s organized chaos.

Here’s a brief breakdown of what is happening in that week and how I’m participating, followed by a little more about me. My current bio is pretty brief and meant to make you smile, but if my critique services are going to be given as an award I think you deserve to know a bit more about the person behind the pen name whose feedback you’ll be receiving.

  • On February 8th the #AdPit website will open up to submissions and Interested participants will submit the 35 word pitch and query letter for their novel
    • Once 150 200 submissions have been received the submission window closes and those subs are read and reviewed by a team of slush readers
    • Winners will be chosen (the website says 11 but I think it’s actually been updated to 16). Five of those winners will be critiqued by literary agent Jessica Schmeidler, five will be critiqued by myself, and six will be critiqued by the #AdPit team.
  • In the meantime, anyone still polishing their #AdPit Twitter pitch can use the hashtag #AdPitCrit to ask people on Twitter in general to critique and help them polish their pitch before the big festival on (Dun, dun, DUN) Friday the 13th.
    • I will be lurking on the #AdPitCrit hashtag and will try to offer what critique I can
  • On the 13th if I favourite your tweet that means I’m interested in reading more. If you’d like to show me (and my colleagues at RMR) more please follow our submission guidelines here. Because we favourited your tweet it means we are soliciting your work and you are welcome to send it to us outside our normal submission window, just be sure to include #AdPit in the subject line somewhere.

A little more about me… The bio I’m using these days is this:

From cover model to author, Cori has performed many roles in the creation of erotic titles but this is her first time wearing an editor hat for this genre. Be gentle with her. Or don’t. That can be fun too.

All of that is true. But it leaves out a lot as well. I’ve been working in publishing for about ten years now. Over that period I’ve ‘worn a lot of hats’ as they say.

I’ve worked as a ghost writer, a copy writer, as a short fiction editor, and a micro publisher. I’ve edited numerous anthologies which people seem to like and I’ve written a thing or two as well (my first erotic novel was published in 2009 and I’ve also had tons of short fiction published). I’ve even been nominated for awards (haven’t won any yet though LOL).

So what I’m trying to say is, though things get a little tricky when you’re dealing with pen names I’m not new to this, and I’m pretty good at what I do. If I favourite your tweet I hope you’ll give me a chance to prove that to you.

Finally… I’m not *just* looking for kinky/sensual romance. I’ve been reading romance since my early teens. Mostly bodice rippers with Fabio on the cover (there are still copies of Catherine Hart’s books and Roberta Gellis’ novel The Rope Dancer on my bookshelves) and these days my tastes are eclectic. One day I’ll want to read a straight-up erotic romp, the next I’ll be in the mood for a sweet YA romance. What’s more, all the editors read the submissions which come into us, so even if a query doesn’t pique the interest of one of us, it might just hook another. You never know.
